Our Belief

At the heart of PAWA's purpose is the belief that by empowering African women, friends and their families, we contribute to the overall prosperity of Scotland.

Our aim is to bridge cultures, nurture talents, and create opportunities for growth and collaboration. Through our initiatives, we aim to break down barriers, fostering a Scotland where diversity is celebrated, inequalities are addressed, and communities are resilient and thriving.

How It Started

The PAWA story started like many others – with the impending arrival of a new life. A young couple, soon to be parents, found themselves needing to streamline their belongings before moving back in with their parents. This meant parting with some well-loved kitchen utensils and appliances.

It was during this transition that the seeds of PAWA were sown. A beautiful suggestion from Flora, a friend of the grandmother - Felicia (the founder of PAWA,) led to uploading these items on a WhatsApp group primarily for Africans. The response was immediate and heartfelt – a chorus of genuine need from families settling in and striving for a decent life.
This outpouring resonated deeply with Felicia. It unveiled a broader yearning within the community – a desire for connection, support, and a path towards flourishing. Driven by this understanding, Felicia embarked on building a community group which later became a charity organisation known as PAWA.

At the heart of PAWA lies a fundamental belief: that empowering women is the bedrock of empowered families and, ultimately, empowered communities. Recognizing the central role women play as homemakers and nurturers, PAWA focuses on equipping them with the tools and resources needed to build strong, thriving families. This includes skills development, access to opportunities, and fostering a sense of belonging and connection within the wider community in Scotland.

Under Felicia's visionary leadership, PAWA blossomed into a vibrant haven for empowerment. Guided by empathy, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to uplift the community, PAWA believes that supporting and empowering families paves the way for a brighter future for all. Their vision: a Scotland where every individual, regardless of background, feels valued, connected, and empowered to lead a life of dignity and worth.
